xbox setup for 2024: my accidental adrenaline rush

Ever been so hyped about something, only to have it feel like you’re defusing a bomb with 15 seconds left? Yeah, that was me last weekend, setting up my new Xbox Series X for 2024. The packaging alone felt like a cryptic puzzle box with more pretentious layers than an overstuffed lasagna. Seriously.

So, I managed to unravel the console from its cardboard labyrinth (only mildly resembling the scene from Jumanji where everything’s going haywire). The instructions were… let’s just say, less than helpful. Got me questioning if hieroglyphs would’ve been clearer. Plug and play, my foot.

Anyway, the first hurdle? The cables. There’s an entire crew of cables that would intimidate any spider with dreams of web-design stardom. HDMI, power, ports that appear to lead nowhere – it’s like they were testing my patience.

Once everything was plugged in (or so I thought), it was time for the software updates. Because of course, future-tech means waiting begrudgingly as a screeching progress bar mocks your existence. I grabbed a drink, settling into what I assumed would be a short wait, but who was I kidding? By the end of it, I’d read every single snack box in my house, twice.

Connecting to Wi-Fi was like negotiating a hostage situation; you say the wrong word, suddenly the network vanishes like Houdini. Kudos to Xbox for making me feel like a secret agent trying to decrypt binary codes under duress. Yeah, because what’s gaming without a side of anxiety?

Finally, the moment of truth. The thing roared to life. The glorious sound of that startup chime paired with the realization that I just lived through my cardio for the week. Honestly, setting up an Xbox in 2024 should at least qualify for some sort of digital badge. Like ‘Survivor of the Tech Jungle’ or something equally dramatic. My eyes still hurt from the non-stop blinking LEDs. I need coffee. Ugh.
