why choosing a console feels like buying a car now

So you’re standing there with a confused look, surrounded by all these Nintendo Switch models. It feels like some sort of twilight zone where you have to decide whether to buy the Bentley of gaming consoles or something that feels more like a second-hand Nissan. Seriously, who thought it was a good idea to have a ‘cara’ (expensive) and ‘barata’ (cheap) choice?

All these options in 2024—it’s like buying loyalty points to… what, the land of Mario and Zelda? I saw somewhere people dropping dough on the golden legend edition, apparently because it’s something that will make others envious while it’s collecting dust next to your TV. Like, what are you getting besides extra shiny joy-cons and some oddly satisfying bragging rights? Anyway, I guess gold is forever, as they say (or when they want you to pay more).

Oh, and let’s talk about the ‘barata’ version—a.k.a. the ‘for the common folk’ offering. Honestly, it just sits there like a humble-brag in the world of gaming gadgets. You’ve got to wonder if it’s really about budget, or just FOMO hitting real hard and saying, ‘Look, I’ve got a Switch too, just don’t squint too hard at the specs.’

It seems like choosing your console tier has turned into a status symbol in itself, as ridiculous as that sounds. And everyone’s debating—whether to fork over wads of cash to get the ‘cara’ edition or just settle with the basics. In some cases, just having a Switch in 2024, regardless of its bling level, could be enough to keep you in the gaming loop.

Anyway, all this is making me think of gaming as an elite club. Do the games even look better on those fancy consoles, or is it just a placebo effect from the extra zeroes on the price tag? My eyes still hurt. I need coffee. Ugh.
