So, I just fired up Fallout 3 again, this time on the Xbox Series X. To cut to the chase, it’s like having a late-night diner burger—comforting, familiar, and somehow better under new light. You know when you see something old but it’s all shiny and new again? That’s how Fallout 3 feels now. It’s like the game’s putting on its best outfit for the first time in over a decade.

Everything’s so crisp. The colors, the textures—they pop out like they’ve had Red Bull for breakfast. Suddenly, wandering the Wastelands is less ‘dodgy walk in the park’ and more ‘post-apocalyptic art gallery’. Forget about those blocky shadows and sluggish frame rates. Gone! Replaced by smooth as butter visuals. (Okay, maybe not literal butter, but you get it.)
Anyway, the loading times—my god, what a revelation. We’ve gone from making a cup of tea in the time it once took to load Megaton, to barely having time to curse over getting stuck in that dead end. It’s like the console is daring me to complain about something else. Maybe the length of time it takes to decide whether to be nice or just vaporize that arrogant Rivet City guard?
I’m still a sucker for that atmosphere—the haunting ambient sounds as you navigate around super mutants who think they own the place. And Dogmeat? Man, he’s still the goodest boy in the wasteland, faithfully following, looking more adorable than ever. Kinda wish I could ruffle his fur, but then again, virtual hand interactions are not quite there yet—unless you’re in some 2025 sci-fi trash.

Also had one of those “wow, I don’t remember this part” moments. Probably because the old graphically challenged version made me want to look away. But now, with all the visual upgrades, I’m like a tourist in my own gaming past. It’s like replaying your childhood but seeing it with adult eyes. Or maybe it’s just second adolescence. Who’s counting?
Sure, you could say that nostalgia is making me biased. Who cares? I’m here playing Fallout 3, having the time of my life on this brilliant hunk of a machine known as the Xbox Series X, and it’s fantastic. My eyes still hurt. I need coffee. Ugh.
