when your console plays you

So, I was scrolling online and stumbled onto something called ‘DEFECT | EXTENDED Gameplay Reveal Trailer.’ Sounds like a regular gameplay trailer at first, right? Wrong. Imagine your gaming console had a mind of its own and decided it was going to play you instead. I don’t even know how to articulate the mix of sheer chaos and unexpected humor buried in this title.

The sheer brilliance (or insanity?) of something labeled ‘DEFECT’ is enough to sit me straight up. The idea that a game could be showcasing its bugs as a feature – it’s like stepping into some weird digital Upside Down where the glitches are part of the challenge. You know, instead of dodging enemy attacks, you’d be dodging the bugs. Something like your game character suddenly taking a leap into the void or an NPC walking backwards as if they’ve finally realized how bleak life in their coded realm is.

I can just imagine myself shouting at my screen, ‘No, not again!’ as my character sinks through the map for the third time. The amount of controllers potentially at risk of being tossed across rooms from pure bewilderment must be staggering. It makes you wonder if the studio behind this is pioneering a new gaming genre. Could ‘Defect Simulator’ become a thing? Are they the new pranksters of the gaming world?

Anyway, we’ve always heard how some bugs add charm to the gaming experience. But an entire trailer dedicated to them? That’s some bold marketing. I can’t help but think about all those hefty gaming reviews on portable consoles that break things down to minute details, yet here we are, reveling in the dysfunctions. It’s absurdly entertaining.

My mind wanders to the potential chaos during multiplayer sessions. Friends/foes all conquering glitches together. I bet it’d be a race to see who can exploit a bug quickest – the ultimate mad dash in a virtual mess. Well, if anything, it sure offers something different from the usual sleek graphics and flawless mechanics we’re so used to. My eyes still hurt. I need coffee. Ugh.
