are game trailers more dramatic than movies now?

I was just flipping through some gaming stuff when the title “Echoes of the End – Extended Gameplay Trailer | PS5 Games” caught my eye. I mean, do we even watch movies anymore? Because these game trailers these days have more plot twists and emotional rollercoasters than any Marvel flick. And oh boy, don’t get me started on the graphics. It’s like the boundary between gameplay and cinema got so blurry, even hipsters with retro glasses wouldn’t be able to tell them apart.

The PS5, I’ve noticed, is really pushing the envelope on dramatic reveals. This one, in particular, has me intrigued. I’m imagining a dystopian world where every corner has some hidden lore and mystery dangling just out of reach (like that one cereal box toy that never seems to surface). You know, the kind of game that makes you question whether to proceed down a dark hallway when you know you’re just going to freak yourself out again.

Anyway, what I find hilarious is how these trailers try to make even the veggies worth watching. I mean, with some reviews saying it’s epic and others calling it overrated, I’m just here wondering if they all watched the same video I did. Our attention spans are toast, but somehow, the gaming world decided to turn things around and amp up intrigue in less time than it takes to toast a Pop-Tart.

I can’t quite tell you all the story beats, obviously, mainly because without actually diving into the game, I’ll just be riffing on my own imagination. But seriously, these productions do have a way of turning head-scratching moments into dramatic cliffhangers. I mean, who wrote the script to this stuff – aren’t they all supposed to be about smashing stuff and leveling up?

If ‘Echoes of the End’ is hinting at anything, it’s probably the promise of epic worldbuilding, endless exploration, and maybe some plot twist that makes you throw your headset in disbelief. Whether or not it lives up to the hype, I’m still here with my microwave popcorn, seeing who nails it with their version of a virtual wonderland.

All in all, I think my eyes still hurt from trying to keep track of it all. Maybe that’s why the trailers are so short, but my attention span now needs a vacation. Ugh.
